IDE Extension
Play Fifth Door games in your editor while your coding agent works. The game starts when you send the agent a prompt and pauses, still on screen, when the agent finishes. Press Keep playing to carry on anyway.
Works in Cursor and VS Code, with Cursor's agent and Claude Code.
Install
-
Download fifth-door-ide.vsix.
-
In your editor, open the command palette (
⌘⇧P/Ctrl+Shift+P) and run Extensions: Install from VSIX…, then pick the file. Or from a terminal:cursor --install-extension ~/Downloads/fifth-door-ide.vsix code --install-extension ~/Downloads/fifth-door-ide.vsix # VS Code -
Click Connect agents when the editor asks, or run Fifth Door: Connect agents from the command palette. Pick the agents you use:
- Cursor adds hooks to
~/.cursor/hooks.json. - Claude Code adds hooks to
~/.claude/settings.json.
Your existing hooks are kept. Both point at
~/.fifth-door-feed/notify.sh. - Cursor adds hooks to
-
Send your agent a prompt. The Fifth Door tab opens in the bottom panel (
⌘J/Ctrl+J) with a game. Next ▶ skips to another game. The extension remembers the game you were on.
Claude Code mod
With Claude Code 2.1.287 or later, install the Fifth Door mod instead of connecting Claude Code in step 3. It starts and pauses the panel game for each prompt, and while Claude works, the strip above the prompt shows the game you're playing, with Next game and Open.
claude plugin marketplace add https://play.fifthdoor.com/claude/marketplace.json
claude plugin install fifth-door@fifth-doorThe game still plays in the editor panel, so keep the extension installed. In
the VS Code chat panel the mod starts and pauses the game, but the strip isn't
shown. To remove it, run claude plugin uninstall fifth-door@fifth-door.
Other agents
Any tool can drive the panel by running the hook script with the event name and JSON on stdin:
echo '{"session_id":"run-1","cwd":"'"$PWD"'"}' | ~/.fifth-door-feed/notify.sh start
echo '{"session_id":"run-1","cwd":"'"$PWD"'"}' | ~/.fifth-door-feed/notify.sh stopOnly windows that have cwd open react. The game pauses when every run that
started has stopped. Hooks never block the agent: if no editor is listening,
the script exits at once.
Uninstall
- Run Fifth Door: Disconnect agents to remove the hooks.
- Uninstall Fifth Door: Games While Your Agent Works from the Extensions view.
